The Seasonal Connection: How Thai Bodywork Aligns with Nature

Thai Medicine is rooted in the concept that the human body replicates nature. Governed by the same elements and seasonal shifts the earth has.
Unlike Western Modalities that look at the body mainly through anatomy and physiology, Thai Bodywork sees the body through the lens of energetic balance.
So how does Thai Bodywork align with nature and the changing of the seasons? The main Philosophy: The 4 elements: Lom (Wind), Fai (Fire), Nam (Water), and Din (Earth).
When the seasons change, the external elements change, water freezes, ground hardens, wind/air becomes colder, which directly disrupts the balance of the our internal elements.
Water=joints, lymph, blood
Fire=digestion, inflammation, metabolism
Wind=movement, nervous system, respiratory
Earth=muscles and bones
The natural changes in Autumn and Winter (the season of Wind and Cold), the air becomes dry, cold, and windy. In the body, this can cause the Wind element to become erratic, and can lead to stiff joints, dry skin, poor circulation and sometimes, anxiety.
What can a Thai session do to help?
We can focus on warming and grounding. Using slow, steady work on the Sen (energy) lines to calm the nervous system. Gentle stretching to gradually work the muscles and keep from tightening up.
Seasonal Thai sessions can help regulate the inner workings, keep balance physically and energetically while keeping the immune system up to par for a healthier cooler time of year.
